Before the meat, a reminder.

Entrepreneurs and small business owners, allow me to pitch Leadership SI’s Discover Class for 2017-2018.

The next merchant/business meeting/mixer is next week. Following are next week’s meeting announcement, last month’s minutes, and the Be Local Expo tout.

NEXT MEETING

Our next meeting will be Tuesday March 21st, 8:30 am at The Culbertson Mansion.

Develop New Albany will be hosting Be Local at the New Albany Elks next Thursday March 23rd, if you are interested in having a table contact Stefanie Griffith we have a few tables left. I have attached the form. If you don’t have a table we hope you will attend, it’s a great way to network. Also we are putting together some bags for the event and if you would like to add anything to the bag about your business please drop off at Develop New Albany office in the White House on 222 Pearl St or bring to the meeting on Tuesday.

If you are interested in being on the committee for The Old Fashioned Christmas we will meet on March 28th, 8:30 am in the White House lobby to begin planning. If anyone is interested in having a Spring event we will also discuss at that meeting.

Merchant/Business Minutes

February 21st, 2017

We want to thank Sally, Carnegie Center for Art and History for hosting this month. It was nice to hear about the current exhibit and for upcoming events.

Attendance: 19

Introductions: Everyone introduced themselves and we had some new faces this month.

Stefanie talked about the Be Local Expo on 23rd of March at New Albany Elks Lodge #270. Booths are $25 for Develop New Albany Members and $50 for non-members. If you are interested in having a booth contact Stefanie Griffith 502-645-6256, space is limited so please contact ASAP.

KIVA is a great loan if you were unable to attend the meeting, please reach out to Julie Rigrish and her team at the Indiana Small Business Development Center. They are willing to assist you with your small business needs. They are always willing to provide expert guidance and they have any resources to help your small business. They are moving back to Downtown New Albany on Pearl Street.

Kate with tourism spoke and they want to help us promote events. They are always looking for experiences they can promote to bus tours, large groups to attract to our area. If you have an idea and want to get another opinion please feel free to reach out to Kate, she will be happy to talk to you.

Courtney with the City wanted to let us know the bike racks are going out and also 2 fix it stations. The Greenway is under construction until October, the path will take you all the way to Silver Creek. City Beautification Day is Saturday April 22nd 8 am to noon. If you would like to put a team together let Courtney know.

Tammy talked about the Grant Develop New Albany received for a new website. It should go live in the next couple weeks. If have information that needs to be shared please send to them. Also a reminder, Develop New Albany’s e blast is a great way to stay informed of events. If you are not receiving please go to www.developna.org and sign up. Our current admin has resigned and we are interviewing for a new admin. Announcement will be soon and no interruptions should occur.

Teresa dropped off 50 bags to Breakwater Apartments for new residents filled with information provided by the merchant/businesses. When we were at the Breakwater they gave us a tour and they are beautiful and very nice upscale apartments. We are hoping to have a network mixer at the Breakwater later this year. If you have information on your shop, restaurant, business feel free to drop off at our office for future promotions and when we have people stop by.

Talked about Easter would anyone want to do a Spring Fling event? If you are please let Teresa know.

This year Harvest Homecoming will be celebrating the 50th year! They are working on new ideas to help promote and make this year extra special.

Art on the Parish Green is right around the corner and they are already working on the event.

At the end of March the conversion to 2 way street will start. The goal is to have it finished by October. The corners are getting updated to compliance now for handicap.

Roger spoke of some of the new restaurants, seafood restaurant opening soon in the old tumble bus location, urban bread officially opened last week and the bar and cigar bar part will open soon right beside them. Lady Tron seems to be going great, 410 bakery is open and has a nice 2nd floor meeting area. District 22 will be opening soon for pizza and beer delivery. Good times bar is going to be gutted. TheaterWorks will hopefully open soon and they are getting their liquor license. Liz at home building Cross fit with soft opening in March. New market place in the old Aladdin’s building on Market Street.

American van guard has been putting up signs on vacant and occupied buildings, just FYI no one likes to talk about it but if you see signs feel free to contact the police and take down.

Leadership Southern Indiana will be accepting applications soon. It is a great program Roger is looking for a way to have the smaller business owners to get scholarships. The commitment is 8 months and planning the following years program

Want to host an event let us know. We sometimes have as many as 30 people so the room needs to be big enough for everyone to be in the same room.
